Colleen Ann Heeter, 62, of Warren, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at UPMC- Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after complications arose from a long-term illness. Colleen was born Colleen Ann Nelson, on February 10, 1958, to the late Edward Frank Nelson Jr., of Spring Creek, PA; and mother, Betty Lou (Conklin) Nelson, of Warren, who survives. She attended WAHS, class of 1976 and was a member of the swim team, later volunteering to teach swimming. She received an Associates of English from JCC and had a diploma in all branches of Cosmetology from New-Penn Beauty School. She had been employed at Bollinger Enterprises Inc. for the past 15 years, where she advanced to Vocational Training Supervisor. She had a big heart and a way with the people she trained, that made her loved and respected. She had many good friends from her experiences there. She often went to Special Olympics Events and Corporate Softball Tournaments to support these friends. She will be sorely missed by everyone at BEI. She was also a member of the Salvation Army Church, being a volunteer and Sunday School Teacher. Colleen enjoyed helping people learn job skills and earn money. Although petite and feminine, she was the kind of woman who was proud she had replaced her car’s radiator or fixed her riding mower. She enjoyed traveling and nature, marveling at God’s wonders. She was an experienced bird watcher, gardener, and flower enthusiast, but she pretty much loved all she observed in the wild. She enjoyed riding ATV’s on the family’s land and in the Allegheny National Forest. Also, an avid history buff, she enjoyed museums, historic sites, reenactments, trails, and documentaries. She was fun loving and enjoyed her many friends from the group of people she knew from brewing beer and making wine, loosely known as the “Free Beer Friday Crew”, where she will be missed dearly and toasted often. Colleen is survived by her husband, Kevin R. Heeter, whom she married on August 22, 2016; two daughters, Sara (Erik) Peterson, of Chelan, WA and Katie (Jason) Whitaker, of Scranton, PA; her mother and step-father, Betty Lou Conklin and Larry Slater, of Warren; three brothers, James (Debbie) Nelson, of Pearblossom, CA, Richard (Cristina) Nelson, of San Bruno, CA and Tony (Ines) Nelson, of Warren; In-law’s, Barbara Yurick, of Beckley, WV, Thomas Yurick, of Meadville, PA, Kent (Sally) Heeter, of Key Largo, FL, and Renee (Chuck) Towers, of Warren, PA; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; several cousins; many nieces and nephews, including namesake niece, Haley Colleen Nelson, whom she loved dearly and was very proud of; she is also survived by her faithful and loving dog, Lucy, the only one who could’ve possibly loved her more than her husband and who shall remain spoiled a little more than the average rich kid. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steven D. Yurick, whom she married on July 6, 1983; her grandparents, Ray and Myrtle Conklin, of Youngsville; two aunts, Rose Brown and Pat Nelson; two uncles, Terry and Albert Conklin; a sister-in-law, Marya Yurick; a brother-in-law, John Yurick; and lifelong friend, Lynn Schnarrs. Due to the COVID19 Pandemic ambiguities, no service dates have been set. A private service and interment will be held as well as a celebration of life, which will both be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be given to the Salvation Army, 311 Beech Street Warren, PA 16365 or to Hospice of Warren County, 1 Main Ave. Warren, PA 16365.

Although we never had the honor of meeting Colleen, we know that we love this wonderful lady. It is our loss, indeed, that our paths never aligned. We send our deepest condolences to Mr. Kevin Heeter. “A life, well lived, is never forgotten.” Rest In Peace, Colleen.
