Sherry E. Stanton, 71, of Russell, PA, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023, at the Rouse Home in Youngsville, PA. She was born September 13, 1952, in Clearfield, PA, the daughter of the late John and Jessie (Graffius) Mitchell. Sherry was a graduate of Clearfield High School and then received her bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special education from Penn State University. She worked as a pre-school and special education teacher and fiscal technician for Crawford County Human Services from which she retired in 2012. Sherry will be remembered as always having a smile on her face. She supported her husband in the early years of their marriage as he finished veterinary school and began his own business. She was always by his side helping with whatever building project he was working on, from pouring concrete to building a cabin. Sherry was always generous with her time by willing to help volunteer as a 4-H leader and cub scout leader. She was a caretaker of numerous animals over the years, she also loved to garden and would can the fruits of her labor. She enjoyed hunting on her family property even though she wasn’t always successful in the hunt. She was a seamstress and had made numerous outfits for herself and her children. Sherry is survived by her husband, Allan K. Stanton, whom she married on June 8, 1973, in Clearfield, PA; two children, Jeffrey (Marcy) Stanton of Russell, PA, and Rebecca Stanton of Meadville, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at Cable Hollow Church, 3157 Cable Hollow Rd., Russell, PA, on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at which time a funeral service will be held with Reverend Allan Jones, pastor, officiating.
