Richard "Dick" Brown Obituary

Richard “Dick” Merton Brown, 91, of Russell, PA, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Kinzua Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Warren, PA. Dick was born April 23, 1932, in Warren, the son of the late Merton Foster Brown and Charleine Rachel Scott Brown. He lived his childhood and youth in the Sanford and Titusville areas, working as a laborer on his grandparents’ farms. He was a graduate of Titusville High School in the class of 1950. He met his wife of 59 years, Eloise Arlene Driscoll, at Houghton College in Houghton, NY. They were married at Millview Wesleyan Church in Forksville, PA, on September 5, 1952. He graduated from Houghton College in 1955 with a major in Religion. He was an ordained minister in the Wesleyan Church. They lived their lives in various communities, including Forksville, PA, Odessa, NY, and Russell, PA. Dick had a colorful working career in several varied occupations. While in college, Dick earned money by working as a painter, specifically by painting church steeples. Dick served as a pastor of Millview and Lincoln Falls Wesleyan Churches from 1955 until 1961, then at Odessa Wesleyan Church from 1961-1962. He worked at the Sullivan County Rural Electric Coop (PA) as a salesman and lineman, as the Assistant Director at the Economic Opportunity Council (EOC) for a 5-county area near Sullivan County, PA, and as the Executive Director of the EOC in Warren and Forest Counties for many years. Following this, he worked for several years in the logging industry, operating a loader, skidder, and driving a semi-truck to deliver logs to the sawmills. Dick is survived by two daughters, Dale Ann (Wolf-Dieter) Krahn from Jamestown, NY, and Nadean (Randall) Huck from Russell, PA; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Huck, Russell, PA, Jason (Misty) Huck, Russell, PA, Kari (Clint) Salapek, Warren, PA, Julie (Joseph) Irons, Lakewood, NY, David (Nikki) Long, Youngsville, PA, Janey (Jesse) Johnson, Pittsburgh, PA, and Laura (Benny) McCracken, Bradford, PA; twelve great- grandchildren, Jack, Leo, and Aubrey Irons from Lakewood, NY, Jayla and Brayden Long from Youngsville, PA, Paige Johnson from Pittsburgh, PA, Emery McCracken from Bradford, PA, Ryan, Evan, and Natalie Huck from Russell, PA, and Kaitlyn and Colton Salapek from Warren, PA; and one sister, Elaine (Brown) Lydick from Pleasantville, PA. In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his wife, Eloise, on June 19, 2012; one granddaughter, Julie Nadean Huck; and one great-grandson, Christian David Salapek. Dick suffered with severe Alzheimer’s his last years of life, which required him to move into the Kinzua Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Warren, PA. Many thanks to the staff members at this facility who took loving care of him while he resided there. Friends will be received at First Methodist Church, 200 Market St., Warren, PA, on Saturday, December 30,2023, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, at which time a funeral service will be held with Reverend Jon Swart, Global Methodist minister, officiating. A reception dinner will be held at the church following the service.
