His wings were ready, but our hearts were not, Norman L. Bailey, 87, of Russell, PA, and formerly of Florida, and GA, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at his residence.
Norm was born February 15, 1936, in Eldred, PA, the son of the late Clarence and Kathryn Bailey.
Norm was a 1954 graduate from the Mt. Vernon Academy in Ohio. From 1954-1955, he worked for his father in the oil field business. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1957, for the military police in Anchorage, Alaska. He was employed at the Orlando Police Department from which he retired. Norm earned his wings as a pilot and was also qualified to fly float planes.
Norm was a member of several Motor Coach clubs, the Warren Wranglers Jeep Club, Western PA Retreads Motorcycle Club (where he was the oldest active member). Norm loved to travel, be outdoors, go “Jeeping,” ride his Honda Goldwing motorcycle, bait Marilyn’s hook and was always ready with the net. Norm was a great storyteller and poet, friends and family will miss his many tales; “If you’re Resting, you’re a Rusting.”
Norm is survived by his daughter, Sherry Hughley and husband Bob of Superior, WI; stepchildren, Ron Wonderling and wife Lori of Russell, PA, Cathy Wonderling of Russell, PA, and Sue Wonderling of Youngsville, PA; grandson, Justin Glidewell of Tampa, FL; great grandchildren, Josiah, Sierra, and Victoria Glidewell of Orlando, FL; special friend, Lois Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Norm was preceded in death on May 15, 2018, by his wife, Marilyn E. Bailey, whom he married on August 6, 1995; sisters, Donna McCord, and Nora Frost.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Norm at a later date in the spring on May 11, 2024.
Memorial Contributions for Norm may be made to Charity of choice.
