Melvin Wesley Durnell, 84, of Warren, PA, passed away in his home surrounded by family early Saturday morning November 6, 2021, after a lengthy illness. He was born on August 18, 1937, in Owls Nest, PA, to the late Melvin Scott Durnell, Sr. and Mary Helen (Clark) Durnell.

He was a member of the Warren Alliance Church for the past 38 years. He was employed for most of his working life by National Fuel Gas at the Roystone Station, from which he retired after 37 years of service. He often shared how much he enjoyed retirement, but missed those he worked with.

Although Melvin was an active man throughout his life, he especially loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with his family; most of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of the things about hunting, he looked forward to was hunting was going to Cherry Grove to the Eames family camp every deer season with his kids and other family members to “hunt”, stoke up the pot belly camp stove, and play Cribbage.   Having served in the Army National Guard as an electrician, he was also a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his children, Martin (Pamela) Durnell, Warren; Michelle Durnell, Russell and Mitchell (Donnette) Durnell; Jamestown, NY; 6 grandchildren, Anthony J. (Kristen) Durnell, Joyce L. (Mike) Myers, Rebekah (Paul) Chapman, Johnathan M. Durnell, Christopher R. (Cherish) Durnell, Matthew M. Bennink, Alexander G. Bennink and Taylor E. Bennink; a brother, Ira “Herk” (Elizabeth) Durnell, of Kane; 8 great-grandchildren, Jonah, Cadence, Evette, Mora, Jenevieve, Gavin, Jaxon, and Nathaniel; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 2014, by his beloved wife, Marilyn Eames Durnell, whom he married on November 22, 1958; a son, Mark Robert Durnell, in 2007; two sisters; Judy Hannold and Janet Allen, and a nephew, Eric Hannold.
