John "Jack" Shattuck Obituary

John R. “Jack” Shattuck, 83, passed away on March 14, 2022, at Hamot in Erie, PA. Jack was born on June 6, 1938, the son of the late Fred W. Shattuck and Martha Mathis Shattuck. A lifelong area resident, Jack was a 1956 graduate of Warren High School. He graduated from the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL. Jack always had a passion to be a pilot and learned to fly at a young age. He began his flying career working in Bradford flying for the Dorn’s. He was also employed by the Cessna and Piper Aircraft companies, delivering single engine aircraft across the Atlantic to Europe. He flew these planes by compass only, and rather than passengers, he carried fuel and oil to make these long journeys. Continuing his career as a pilot, he founded the Trans Air Executive Company in Warren and flew mail and passengers from the Warren Airport, (now Betts Field) and many other surrounding airports. He logged countless hours flying airplanes from single engines to private jets. In 1976, Jack became the Chief Pilot for United Refining Company and was the Manager of the United Jet Center at the Jamestown Airport. He finally retired from United in 2004 after 28 years of service. Jack was a member of the Conewango Valley Country Club; he loved to play golf. He was also a member of The Elks Lodge #223, and the Moose Lodge #109. He enjoyed boating on the Allegheny Reservoir, riding ATV’s and fishing and hunting. He truly enjoyed his time in Florida during the winters. He loved having all his family around him; he enjoyed the chaos. Jack will long be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He is survived by his wife Nancy J. Phanco Shattuck; his children: Linda Gebhardt (Tad), Tammy Jensen (Bart), Debra Swanson (Scott), Michael Natale (Patricia), Jason Shattuck (Tara). He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his loyal canine companion Jake. Jack is also survived by two children from a previous marriage. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by brothers Fred “Ted” Shattuck, who was killed in action in the Vietnam War, Paul E. Shattuck, two other brothers, and one sister. Friends will be received on Friday March 18, 2022, from 5 to 7 pm at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc, 1003 Pennsylvania Ave. E. Warren, PA. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to the American Red Cross 305 Market St. Warren, PA, or to Paws Along the River, 212 Elm St. warren, PA, 16365.
