JoAnne M. Chew, 82, went to her heavenly home on Friday, April 7, 2023. She went peacefully in her sleep at her daughter’s home in Estillfork, AL. JoAnne, the daughter of Paul and Mildred Smith, was born and raised in Warren, PA. She graduated from Warren High School in 1958 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, friend, home-maker, substitute teacher, and daycare director. JoAnne traveled extensively and lived in many locations in her lifetime. She attended Seashore Community Church of the Nazarene while living in NJ, Avon Park Church of the Nazarene while living in FL, and Hall’s Chapel Baptist Church while living in AL. JoAnne was a born again Christian who was generous and always thoughtful of others. Her life impacted so many people and she made a difference in countless children’s lives. She was also known for her beautiful wedding cakes and many sweet treats, most notably her wonderful chocolate chip cookies. JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mildred, and sister, Patricia. She is survived by her husband, James Chew of Rio Grande, NJ; brothers, Tom Smith of Warren, PA and Jimmy Smith of Cocoa, FL; four daughters, Michelle Smith of Estillfork, AL, Rebecca Mitchell of Litchfield Park, AZ, Judi Klingele of Erma, NJ, and Paula Jo Surla of Brunswick, GA; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and countless other family members and friends. Family and friends will be received at Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc., 1003 Pennsylvania Ave E., Warren, PA, on Monday, April 17, 2023, from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The funeral service will be at 12:00 pm at the funeral home, officiated by Reverend J. Maier, pastor of Warren First Church of the Nazarene.
