James "Jim" McDunn Obituary

James Bernard McDunn died March 18, 2024. Jim was born September 7, 1933, in Johnstown PA, the son of Michael H. McDunn and Cecilia G. (Weimer) McDunn. He attended St. Patrick’s School and Johnstown Catholic High School. He served in the army from 1956 -1958 and was employed for 45 years at New Process (Blair Corporation). Jim was an active member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many leadership positions. He enjoyed working with the church youth, especially summer camps. A car enthusiast who loved his Cadillacs and purple Prowler. He created hundreds of cakes ranging from elegant wedding cakes to family birthday cakes. An accomplished tailor, making a wedding dress and prom dresses for his nieces and square-dancing skirts for his wife as they were members of the Circle 8 Square Dancing Club. Jim was an award-winning member of the Warren Camera Club. Always wanting to be busy he pursued many hobbies, creating ceramic and stain glass pieces and experimenting with the newest technology. He could design and build, wallpaper and paint, refinish and reupholster. He and his wife traveled throughout the United States and also to Ireland and Scotland. He was a faithful member of the Bounce Class at the Y. Jim could be spotted walking his dog nearly every day at Betts Park. “Like a good neighbor” Jim was there for those living on the Southside of Warren for 60 years and recently his neighbors in Russell. Jim happily celebrated his 90th birthday at the McDunn Family Reunion in September. He is survived by nephews, Patrick (Laura) McDunn, James P. McDunn, Thomas McDunn, and Troy (Caprice) McDunn all of Warren, Michael (Alice) McDunn of Greenville, SC., and Todd McDunn of Hilliard, Ohio; nieces, Colleen McDunn and Kathleen McDunn of Warren, Marie (Dan) Nosek of Glenville NY; and many great nephews and nieces. Also survived by nieces on his wife’s side of the family, Linda (Richard) Burroughs, Sandy (Randy) Britton, Deborah Crecraft and Dassi (Alan) Sklan. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Elaine Crecraft McDunn on January 30, 2017. Also by his parents, brothers Michael (Jeanette), Edward, and Thomas, sister Ann Marie McDunn, and niece Cheryl Saporito. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park. The family will host a picnic at Betts Park this summer to honor and share memories of Jim. Further information will be published closer to the date.
