James Kemp Sr. Obituary

James Bryan Kemp Sr., 92, a lifetime resident of Warren, PA, passed away on May 1, 2022, at the Warren Manor. Jim was born on February 13, 1930, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of the late Virgil Kemp and Josephine Davis Kemp. Jim was a high school graduate of Mercer High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Lock Haven University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War. Afterwards, he became a Fifth grade Social Studies teacher for the Warren County School District. Jim was a faithful and active member of the First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Warren Lions Club. Jim loved the beach and spending vacations at Ocean City, New Jersey. He was an avid golfer, loved watching the Pirates and Steelers play, and enjoyed running 5k and 10k races. Jim is survived by his children Mary Jo Zubrod and husband Alan of Warren, PA, John Kemp and wife Candice of Edinboro, PA, and James Kemp Jr. and wife Carrie of Lebanon, OH; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane Long Kemp, whom he married in 1954; and sisters Kay Stiles and JoAnne DeAngio. Friends will be received at First United Methodist Church, 200 Market St. Warren, PA, on Saturday May 7, 2022, from 10:00am to 11:00am, at which time a funeral service will be held, with Reverend Dr. Mark Hecht, officiating.
