Gayle M. Mohney, 86, of Warren, PA, and formerly of Kinzua, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Warren General Hospital.
Gayle was so loved and treasured by her family and friends. There are no words to describe this unbelievable loss to our family and our community.
Gayle was born on July 13, 1937, in Rockland, PA, to the late Clyde E. and Zelma P. (Snyder) Hart. While living in Kinzua, she met the man she would spend 64 married years with in her husband Don Mohney, whom she married on December 27, 1958.
Gayle excelled at everything she did. She was a 1955 graduate of Warren Area High School. Gayle began her career as a secretary at P.D.M. prior to her 20+ year career with the City of Warren where she served as the Administrative Assistant to the Warren borough manager. She was very much involved in the day-to-day operations within the community and was elected to serve as acting borough manager in 1985. Gayle later retired in 2000. For her committed service, Gayle was recognized and received the Woman of the Year Award.
Gayle was a long-standing member of the First Church of God where she gave selflessly of her many talents. She was a true woman of faith serving on various committees in her service to God. Gayle volunteered and served as the Church Treasurer for 25 years, only recently passing the torch. Outside of the Church, she continued her loving, giving ways as a volunteer at Warren General Hospital.
Gayle and her family spent much of their time camping and boating at the Kinzua Reservoir for years. To the very end at 86 years old, Gayle enjoyed exercising; biking, walking, and swimming with her friends at the “Y”. Gayle was an avid reader and an amazing cook. She loved music and loved to sing. She had a passion for watching sports as she and Don were proud supporters of local athletics. Her special teams were her beloved Duke Blue Devils basketball team and the Atlanta Braves baseball team.
Gayle was the true matriarch of her family. She was the planner and caretaker for all family occasions, holidays, birthdays, and all other special events. Her family and her friends were her life. She leaves a void that we will all never be able to fill. Left to treasure her memories are her husband Don of Warren, PA; son Mike Mohney and wife Diedra of Arden, NC; Daughter Karen Williams Olson and husband Rob of Youngsville, PA; daughter Marcia Korchak and husband Scott of Dubois, PA; her five beloved grandchildren Nathaniel, Eric, Abby, Rachel, and Chapin; three great grandchildren Claire, Natalie, Allison and baby River on the way; her sister Janet Hart of Warren, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
Gayle will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, best friend and neighbor. Gayle relentlessly, and literally, gave her whole self to everything she pursued.
Gayle’s passing has left a hole in our hearts but we know that she is watching over us all from the House of the Lord.
Friends will be received at First Church of God, 1111 Madison Ave., Warren, PA, on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 11:00am to 1:00pm, at which time a memorial service will be held with Reverend Bill Hargenrader, pastor, officiating.
