Garry L. Hunter (Archie),80, of Butler, PA, and formerly of Warren, PA, transitioned as a Heavenly Angel on July 20, 2023. Arch was born on December 6, 1942, in Warren PA, the son of the late Gail and Janet (Howe) Hunter.
He met the love of his life Helen while performing a traffic stop as a Warren City Policeman. They spent 57 years together and had no children. Arch served proudly in the United States Air Force and after serving as a Warren City Police Officer he enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police in 1967 retiring after 25 years in 1992. His whole career was spent in Troop āDā Butler retiring from the Criminal Investigation Unit. He was a Master Mason and a 32nd Degree Mason with the Valley of New Castle. He belonged to the Butler Elks Lodge #170, and he was a proud member and Past President of Brady Paul Lodge # 54 Fraternal Order of Police, and he belonged to the Pennsylvania State Police Retired Association. He was proud to have been a founding member of the Pennsylvania Homicide Investigators Association. He conducted his own Private Investigation Service after Retirement from the State Police. He was a gentle giant and friend to many residents of Butler County.
He is survived by his wife Helen of Kinzua Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Warren, PA; two brothers, Robert and wife Debbie of Scandia, PA and Ron Hunter of Lander, PA; sister-in-laws, Mary Pierson, and JoAnn Elmquist, both of Warren, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Arch was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Joan Hunter.
Services for Arch will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be at Warren County Memorial Park, beside his parents.
