“Do not go gentle into that good night, old age should burn and rave at close of day: Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
Taken from us all too soon, Douglas Todd Baldensperger, passed on April 25, 2023, at the age of 52 and he will be forever missed. He was born with a kind soul, a huge heart, and a personality that was larger than life itself. To know Doug was to love him, although he would most certainly disagree just for the sake of a good conversation. Doug would give the shirt off his back and the last penny in his pocket to help a complete stranger. He loved his family and was extremely proud of his two children.
Being born in Warren, PA and into a hunting family, Doug was a devoted hunter for many years. He especially loved walking in the woods in the cool morning fog, just before the sunrise. He passed on his passion for hunting to his beautiful daughter, Mattie Jane, (Boomie) Baldensperger (21) of Brownstown, MI. Doug adored his little girl and laughed often at her feisty spirit. She shares his compassion for animals and on any given evening you could find them curled up watching “Flicka,” eating snacks, and cuddling Jake, Luke, or Chloe. We all knew Max was secretly his favorite.
Doug loved football and shared this passion with his talented son, Douglas Charles Baldensperger II (23) of Brownstown, MI. You could always find them in the yard practicing passes and routes, or in the driveway with hockey sticks. When “Big Doug” came out to play, the neighborhood kids would all come running. Doug never “let” you win, he always challenged you to “earn your spot.” His discipline was instilled in his son, of whom he was so proud when he became a United States Marine.
Doug loved his family and if you were a friend, you were family. He opened his home and his garage to anyone who enjoyed watching sports and was open to being heckled from time to time. He was neatly pressed and sharp dressed. His ironing skills could be matched by no other. While some people didn’t quite “get” his sense of humor, those who knew him well would never take him seriously. He loved standing around reminiscing and laughing with his brothers, Daryl Baldensperger (Amber Rossman) and Ed Baldensperger (Sue Cummings), and his sister, Kim (Baldensperger) Petruney (Rich) all of Warren, PA. They spoke of good times growing up and even more interesting tales of adventures with their father, Douglas Charles Baldensperger who he is now reunited with in heaven. They gave their mother, Donna (Reed) Baldensperger a few worries along the way, but Doug cherished and loved his mother with all his heart. Doug would jokingly tell you he only liked his own kids, but we all know he loved his nieces and nephews dearly.
Doug was married to Diana (Peterson) Baldensperger for 21 years. They shared many wonderful memories together in both Canton and Brownstown, Michigan where they were blessed with so many lasting and beautiful friendships. It would be remiss if we did not mention Uncle Steve Kraft (Flat Rock, MI) and Uncle Bear (Barry) Walker (Brownstown, MI), the avid outdoorsmen who would accompany him on camping excursions, to sporting events, or to sit around a good fire. Lastly, a best friend forever, Tim (Nuhfer) and not much more that needs to be said.
Too many laughs left lingering for another time and place…
