Obituary

Carol Louise (Ortner) Cunningham Cable, 91, of Warren, PA, passed peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2023. Carol led a happy, joy-filled life every single day, devoted first of all to family. She adored her two sons Jim (Laurie) Cunningham III, of Pittsburgh, and Matthew (George) Cunningham of Palm Springs, CA; and her grandson Jimmy Cunningham IV. Carol remained close to her late sister Rosemary (Bob) Richard of Scottdale, PA, and Sterling, VA, her favorite traveling companion; and she loved visiting with her brother John (Jill) Ortner of Hamburg and New Paltz, NY, on vacations in Chautauqua, NY, where they spent childhood summers. She enjoyed visits with nephews Eric Ortner, Michael (Dale) Richard, Michael (Joe) Burnette, and Raymond Burnette; great nieces Megan (Patrick) Knowlan and Brett Richard; sister-in-law Gwen (Raymond) Burnette; and best friend since college Eunice Herrington. Carol was a faithful member of the Warren Philomel Club for more than 55 years and was the Host of the Philomel Hour on WNAE and WRRN-FM radio in Warren. An active member of First Lutheran Church for 63 years, Carol was the longtime church secretary, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was a volunteer server at the Senior luncheon until they pointed out that she was older than all the seniors she was serving! For decades she planted and maintained an annual flower bed in the church garden, and loved tending her own lush, perennial garden. Carol thoroughly enjoyed her life in Warren, PA; and she also loved visits to Pittsburgh to see her son Jim and grandson Jimmy, and to California to spend time with son Matt. Born on August 3, 1931, in McKeesport, PA, the daughter of the late Reverend Dr. Elmer A. Ortner and French teacher Dorothy F. Cooke. She was also preceded in death by her first husband of 33 years, James Hardy Cunningham Jr., of Wilkinsburg and Warren, PA, and her second husband of 8 years, Charles Cable, of Warren, PA. Carol attended Rochester High School, in the Beaver Valley, and Thiel College in Greenville. Her family is so thankful to have been blessed by such a kind, cheerful, giving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her family would like to thank special friends Denise Pearson and members of the First Lutheran Choir, and her friend and neighbor Tom Shorebird. Friends and family are invited to visit from 6:00-8:00pm at Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, 1003 Pennsylvania Ave E, Warren, PA 16365, on Monday, July 10, 2023, and for one hour prior to a funeral service that will be held at First Lutheran Church, 109 W. 3rd Ave, Warren, PA, on Tuesday July 11 at 11:00am. Luncheon at the church to follow. Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday July 12, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, PA.
