Barbara Elaine Ekey, 100, formerly of Russell, Pa., passed away October 19, 2021, at the Kinzua Health Care and Rehabilitation.
Barbara was born on February 19, 1921, in Wellsville, N.Y., a daughter of the late Emerson and Nina Wagner Spicer. She was a 1939 graduate of the Lander High School.
Barbara was housekeeper for C.J. Crary Home, although she was most of all homemaker in her own home where she loved to read, cook, garden, and care for her husband and family. She attended the Cable Hollow Community Church.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, John Ekey and Donald (Linda) Ekey both of Akeley; her sister, Erma Thelin, of Churchville, N.Y.; and her brother, Francis Spicer, of Gouldtown; four grandchildren, Laura (Roy) Martin, Russell, PA, Paul (Brandi) Ekey, Elk River, MN, Darren (Amy Ekey), Clarksville, TN, and Dana (Heidi) Ekey), eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her husband; Kenneth L. Ekey, whom she married on July 14, 1941, who passed away on November 24, 1991; her brothers, Asa Spicer, Emerson Spicer and his wife Janie, Duane Spicer and his wife Joyce; daughter-in law, Judy Ekey; two additional sisters-in-law; Dorie and Melva Spicer, a brother-in-law, Roger Thelin; and a nephew, Robert Thelin, and a niece, Nyla Luvison.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Cable Hollow Community Church.
Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
