Obituary

William P. "Bill" Wholeben, 91, of Clarendon, PA, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013, at St. Vincent Health Center of Erie, after suffering a stroke on Wednesday, July 31st.  He was born January 6, 1922, in Warren, PA, the son of the late Philip and the late Alyce Joslin Wholeben.

Bill's formal education consisted of studies in a one room school in Stoneham, PA. He was employed by former Hammond Irons Work, which later became Pitts Des Moines, Inc. and retired from there after working first as a laborer and eventually becoming a foreman throughout his working career.  He was a World War II veteran, serving the European Theater with the 83rd Medical Battalion Armored, 13th Armored Division from 1942 to 1946.  Bill was a member of the Stoneham United Methodist Church and a life member of the Clarendon VFW.  He was also an active member of the Elk County Shriner's Club.

He is survived by one son, David Wholeben, and wife, Patricia; he also has four grandchildren, James Wholeben, Kathy Davidson, and husband, Roger, Lori Anderson, and husband, Dan and Melissa Mahaney, and husband, Sean; twelve great-grandchildren, Ian Davidson, Elyssa Davidson, Ashley Davidson, Eliza Davidson, Zachary Anderson, Jeremiah Anderson, Gabrielle Anderson, Daren Mahaney, Derrick Mahaney, Ryleigh Mahaney, Cayden Mahaney and Corey Mahaney; all of the Clarendon area.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Ravencraft Wholeben on February 3, 2013; they celebrated 70 years of marriage in June 2012, renewing their vows at that time; and his sister, Margaret Walters.

Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc, 1003 Penn Ave., E., on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon, at which time the funeral will be held there with Rev. Seth McClymonds, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16505; or charity of choice.
