William H. Stewart, 91, formerly of 215 Madison Avenue, Warren, crossed over into the heavenly realms on January 2, 2015, with his sister-in-law, daughter and son-in-law present.

He was born on January 11, 1923, in Warren, the son of the late Ernest and Garnet McGuire Stewart.  William attended Warren public schools and joined the Navy in 1943 at the Sampson Naval Station in Seneca, N.Y. He served as a Seaman 2nd Class for almost 4 years on a destroyer escort as a U.S. Navy Gunner.

After serving in the Navy, he was employed by Inter Royal Co. (Deluxe Metal) until his retirement in 1988. He devoted his service to the Holy Redeemer Church of Warren. Bill loved to play bingo with family and had a lifelong affection for the railroad and trains.  He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by one son, Arthur Halaby, and wife, Jeanne, of North Ridgeville, OH; two daughters, Cindy Downe, and husband, George, and Carol Banerjee, both of Jamestown, NY; 3 grandchildren, Jon A. Halaby, Amy M. Halaby-deSa and Lauren Jones-LeRoy; 5 great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death on October 25, 2007, by his wife, Margaret Petersen Halaby, whom he married on July 17, 1976; a brother, Ernest "Pidge", and a sister Margurite "Sis" Stewart.

Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, 1003 Pennsylvania Ave., E., Warren, on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time, a funeral service will be held there, with Fr. Jim Gutting, pastor of Holy Redeemer Church, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
