Obituary

William O. Nordin, 87, of Warren, died surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Warren General Hospital. Bill was born December 16, 1928, in Warren, PA. He was the son of the late John and Cletius (Hicks) Nordin.

Bill was a 1947 graduate of Warren High School.  He joined the US Air Force during the Korean War and served with the 49th Air Rescue Squadron at Selfridge AFB.  Bill was an Operator at the United Refining Company for thirty eight years, from which he retired.  He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, where he was active in the Men's Breakfast group, and took care of the church lawn. Bill was also a member of the American Legion and the Eagles Club and a former member of the Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoyed cutting firewood and woodworking, gardening, bird watching, and volunteered at the Toy Shoppe at the Warren State Hospital. Above all else, family was most important to him.  He was a great husband, father and grandfather, and great-grandfather. Bill will also be remembered as a very patient man.

He is survived by his wife, Joy A.(Johnson) Nordin; three sons, Myron Nordin, and wife Pamela, of Scandia, Matthew Nordin, and wife, Susan, of Warren, and Michael Nordin, and wife, Tricia, of Hazel Hurst;  one sister: Marilyn Larson, and husband, Ken, of Fairfield Glade, TN; and two brothers, John Nordin, and wife, Lois, of Frewsburg, NY, and Richard "Dick" Nordin, and wife, Yvonne, of Lititiz, PA; seven grandchildren, Justin Nordin, and wife, Jenny, Chicago, IL, Daniel Nordin, Lewis Run, PA, Josh Nordin, Harrisburg, PA, Danielle Nordin Guiffre, and husband Tony, Syracuse, NY, Alyssa Nordin Geras, and husband, Tony, Montgomery, NY, Austin Nordin, Saco, ME, Abigayle Nordin, Hazel Hurst, PA; two great-grandchildren, whom knew Bill affectionately as "Woo-Woo", Elizabeth and Katherine Nordin, Chicago; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Allen Nordin, in 2006; twin brother, Wilbur "Bud" Nordin; nephew, Kevin Nordin; and a sister-in-law, Jane Nordin.

Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc, 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, be Friday, December 2, from 3 to 6 p.m., and at St. John's Lutheran Church, 200 Pleasant Dr., Warren, on Saturday, December 3, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time a funeral service will be held there with The Rev. Susan Scofield, pastor, St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at Warren County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution should consider St. Johns Lutheran Church, or the Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department, or Paws Along the River.
