William L. Martin, "Bill", 98, formally of 20 Melody Lane Russell, PA passed away at Warren Manor on June 25, 2019. Bill was born in Pinegrove Township on November 24, 1920, son of the Clarence and Lillie (Herrick) Martin. Graduating from Russell High School in 1939. Bill was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church all his life. Bill will rest in his grave until the second coming of the Lord and Savior. He was in the U.S. Army in 1942. Basic trading in St. Petersburg, FL and then assigned to the Air Force Hospital at Biloxi, MS. Bill had been active his entire life with the community. He played baseball with the Russell Merchants, managed Hot Stove, American Legion, Russell Merchants Penn-NY league baseball, Mosher Milling of Lottsville softball. He was active in the Russell Volunteer Fire Department for 76 years and the Pinegrove Sportmens for 65 years. A member of the Lions Club, Lakewood Rod and Gun, Moose, American Legion, RSVP and many volunteer groups. He was very active in the Democratic Party as Pinegrove Democratic Committeeman for 40 years, Pinegrove Tax Collector for 20 years, Pinegrove Supervisor for 16 years, Warren County Commissioner for 4 years and County Democratic Party Chairman for 5 years. Bill had worked for Satterlund Gas and Norgas for many years. Bill is survived by daughters; Darlene (Ralph) Miller of Russell, Sue (Ray) Lauffenburger of York, SC, daughter-in-law; Karen S Martin of Russell, sons Kurt (Jayne) Martin of Russell, Kevin (Pam) Martin of Warren, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, stepdaughters Linda (Jim) McCollough of Warren, Gloria (Bob) Gates of Warren, stepsons; Carl (Linda) Swanson of Warren, Jim(Cathy) Swanson of Warren, 10 step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren, several step great great grandchildren, 2 Nieces and 3 Nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his first wife Mabel Rhoades, second wife Donna M. Mangini, third wife Carol Swanson, Sons William L Martin Jr. and James L Martin. Brothers Glenn and Charles, sister Lila Mae Family and friends will be received from 4-7PM on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, 1003 Penna Ave. E Warren, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday, June 28, 2019, with Rev. Lynn Gatz, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Pinegrove Cemetery, Russell, PA. Memorial donations may be made to the Adventist Church, 6616 Market St Ext. Russell, PA 16345, or to the Russell Volunteer Fire Department, 9 Perrigo Lane Russell, PA 16345.
