William Charles Mader, 83, of Warren, Pa. passed away on May 14, 2014 at the UPMC Hamot Medical Center.
Bill was born on March 15, 1934, in Ridgway PA to the late Claude E.and Marjorie Moore Mader. Bill graduated Ridgway High School and received his BA degree from Bucknell University, May, 1950. He was accepted into the Marine Officers Training Corps - first stationed at Quantico, VA and finally in Opa Locka, FL with the third Marine Air Wing; he received his Second Lieutenant's commission upon graduation from Quantico and retired in 1955 as First Lieutenant.
During his business career, he was involved in Sales and spent most of his employment with Sylvania/GTE in sales and marketing. Following his retirement from GTE Sylvania, he became a member of the Warren County YMCA, to which he was devoted and active, and served many years as a Director. Additionally, he was a volunteer with Literacy Council, served on the supervisory group for the Warren County Federal Credit Union, as a member of the TWAC Citizens Advisory Board, had been a member of the Zoning Hearing Board and been a WGH "Red Coat" volunteer. He served a term as Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church, Warren, of which he was a member. He had been a "Sharing Place" volunteer since its inception.
Bill appeared in several productions by the Warren Players, from "Arsenic and Old Lace", to his last and favorite, "There Goes the Bride."
Bill is survived by two children, Mary Scott and her husband Dave, Alexandria, VA; and William M. "Marty" Mader, and his wife Pam, Peshtigo, WI; two grandchildren, Lindsay Vacarro and her husband Tony, Tampa, FL, and William Mader, Oakland, CA; a sister, Barbara Knight, Sandwich, MA; and two great grandsons, Frank and Zane Vacarro, Tampa, FL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Birkenmeyer Mader, whom he married in 1954.
Friends will be received at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 Market Street, Warren, PA, on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., at which time a memorial service will be held, with The Rev. George Johnson, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Warren YMCA or the Warren County Humane Society.
