Wilbur E. "Pete" Swartz, Jr., 77, of North Warren, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014, at the Warren General Hospital.
Pete was born December 7, 1936, in Carmichaels, PA, the son of the late Wilbur E., Sr. and Dora Katherine Parrish Swartz. He was a 1954 graduate of Carmichaels High School. Pete was drafted into the US Army in 1959, serving until 1962. Pete started out as a mechanic at Ettingers Keystone Station and worked for 35 years at the National Forge as a crane operator, from which he retired. For over 30 years, Pete served on the Board for the N.F.O. Irvine Federal Credit Union for the Forge employees. He was also most recently employed by Seneca Home Health.
For 45 years, Pete was very active in the North Warren Volunteer Fire Department, serving in many capacities including driving for the ambulance. He was also active in the Warren County Fire Police, and was the President of the State Fire Association.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta Jean Barrett Swartz, whom he married on September 12, 1959; six children, William Swartz, and wife, Deborah, Goldsboro, NC, Kristin Campbell, Allentown, PA, James Swartz, and wife, LaRae, Sierra Vista, AZ, Thomas Swartz, Pensacola, FL, Robert Swartz, Goldsboro, NC, and Kathleen Swartz, Warren, PA; two sisters, Jeanne Palone, and husband, Marion "Butch", Dry Tavern, PA and Sara Ann Bradman, and husband, Bud, Rices Landing, PA; ten grandchildren, Billy and Matt Swartz, Erik and Seth Campbell, Cody, Brandon (Michelle) Swartz, Michelle and Sara Swartz and Katelyn and Carter Swartz; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend and canine companion, Penelope.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Regina Swartz.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc. 1003 Penn. Ave. E., Warren, on Sunday, November 2, from 2 to 5 p.m. and at the North Warren Presbyterian Church, 200 S. State St., Warren on Monday, November 3, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time, a funeral service will be held there, with Rev. Burfoot "Buddy" Ward, III, pastor, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Warren County, 2 Crescent Park West, Warren, PA 16365; the North Warren Volunteer Fire Department, 16 S. State St., Warren, PA 16365; or the North Warren Presbyterian Church.
