December 16, 1928 – November 8, 2016
Wilbur R. "Bud" Nordin, 87, of DuBois, and formerly of Cherry Grove, passed into Heaven on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at his home. Bud was born December 16, 1928, in Warren, PA. He was the son of the late John A. and Cletius (Hicks) Nordin. He married Delores Jane Potter on August 20, 1955, at the First United Methodist Church in Youngsville.
Bud served in the US Air Force as a Staff Sgt. during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return home, he worked for PennDot as an equipment operator. Later, he was employed as a machinist at the National Forge from which he retired after 26 years. He was a life time member of the First Lutheran Church in Warren. An active member in the Warren Community, Bud was in the I.O.O.F. #339, and the Odd Fellows Kossuth Encampment #98 of Warren; a 32 degree Mason of North Star Lodge #241 of Warren, Shriner from the Zem Zem Temple of Erie, American Legion Post #135 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #313. In the past, he served as the NFO Federal Credit Union Secretary/Treasurer, and was a board member of Warren Rural Electric Cooperative. He served as a weather observer for 45 years for NOAA Weather Service. He was the co-founder of the Cherry Grove Volunteer Fire Department, where he also served as chief from 1970-1989. He will be remembered as a hard working, kind and loving man. He was a friend to all and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by three children, Nora L. Shaw of Phoenix, Arizona; Raymond J. Nordin (Lou) of Cherry Grove; and Dana K. Hamby (Ralph) of DuBois; four siblings, John C. Nordin, William O. Nordin, Marilyn J. Nordin Larson, and Richard D. Nordin; four grandchildren, Erin Jellick (Craig) and Brian Shaw (Breana) of Phoenix; and Kevin and Connor Hamby of DuBois; three great-grand children and several nieces and nephews. He was a devoted father, brother, grandpa, and uncle with strong family values. He leaves a great legacy of memories to his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on December 29, 2004, by his wife, Delores Jane Potter Nordin; and their son, Kevin D. Nordin, on December 25, 1960. They will be joined forever in eternity.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc. 1003 Penn. Ave. E., Warren, on Sunday, November 13, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The funeral will be held at the First Lutheran Church, 109 W. Third Ave., Warren, on Monday, November 14, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Jeffrey Ewing, pastor, will officiate.
Burial with military honors will follow at Warren County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers those wishing to make a memorial donation should consider Cherry Grove Volunteer Fire Department or First Lutheran Church of Warren.
