Obituary

Wayne Carl Schwanke, 87, of Scandia died Saturday, January 21, 2017.  Wayne was born June 27, 1929, in Brookston, PA. He was the son of the late Carl and Bernice (Waite) Schwanke.

Wayne served in the US Army as a tank driver from 1948 until 1952.  He was employed by the United Refining Company as a welder, from which he retired in 1992.  Wayne was a member of the Scandia Covenant Church.  He was also a member of the Scandia Volunteer Fire Department, and had served as a Supervisor for ElkTownship from 1974 to 1979.  In his earlier years he enjoyed family life, square dancing, hunting, camping, stock car racing, traveling, and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rose (Irvine) Schwanke, brothers, Donald Schwanke, of Greenhurst, NY, and Eugene Schwanke, of Warren, PA; brother-in-law, Ralph Irvine, and wife, Pat, of North Warren; four children, Sheila Wadsworth, of Bennett, CO, Craig Schwanke, of Ashburn, VA, Kirk Schwanke, and wife, Janice, of San Angelo, TX and Jennifer Marston, and husband, Ted, of Midland, VA; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his great granddaughters Shayde Elizabeth Smith and Sophia Rose Wadsworth, son-in-law Richard Eugene Wadsworth, JR, sister-in-law Linda Ellen Schwanke and grandson Kyle Wayne Wadsworth.

Friends will be received at Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, 1003 Penn. Ave. E., Warren, on Friday January 27, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral will be held at Scandia Covenant Church, 18 Peterson Road, Scandia, on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11 a.m., Rev. Jon Meyer, pastor, officiating.  Military honors will be provided by members of the Youngsville American Legion Honor Guard.

Private interment will be at Scandia Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution should consider a gift in his memory to Scandia Covenant Church or Scandia Volunteer Fire Department.
