Stephen John Rieder, 81, of Warren, PA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 26, 2021, following a recent illness.
Stephen was born November 30, 1939, in Warren, PA, the son of the late Ronald W. and Ruby King Rieder. He graduated from Warren High School, received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Nazarene College and later earned a master's degree from the Nazarene Theological Seminary. He was a lifelong member of the Warren First Church of the Nazarene.
Stephen devoted his life to the Lord, committing to lifelong missionary service, where he and his wife Irene spent 40 years as missionaries to several countries in Asia. Following his retirement from the global mission field, he returned to Warren and became involved in the ministries of his local church and community. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and motorcycle riding. He will long be remembered as a man devoted to God, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Irene B. McCarty Rieder, whom he married in 1962 in Endicott, NY; a son, Ronald W. Rieder and his wife Angie of Dedham, MA; a daughter, Rebekah J. Woods and her husband Daniel of Waldorf, MD; two grandchildren, Samuel B. Woods, and Renae M.J. Woods, both at home; two sisters, Marilyn Stark and her husband James of NC., and Sharon Rieder of Warren, PA; a brother, Daniel Rieder and his wife Mary of St. Augustine, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Rieder in 1988.
The family will receive friends at the First Church of the Nazarene, 907 Penna. Ave. East, Warren, PA on Saturday December 4, from 10 am until 12 noon, at which time a memorial service will be held, with Rev. J. Maier, pastor, officiating.
