Sherwood N. "Sherry" Fleming, 86, of Lookout Street, Warren, PA passed away on Monday, November 3, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital of Erie, PA. Sherry was born September 21, 1928, in Frewsburg, NY to the late James L. and Esther J. Carlson Fleming.
He attended grade school in Irvine, PA and Youngsville High School, graduating in the class of 1946. Sherry attended Hoffs Business College in Warren and specialized in business and accounting courses. While receiving his education, much of his time was spent working on the family farm on Indian Camp Run Road, where he also enjoyed hunting and fishing in that area. He enjoyed all sports, and could be seen at the National Forge baseball games with his father on Sunday afternoons.
Sherry attended Sunday school and Church at the Youngsville EUB Church on Second Street and was a confirmed member. He began his employment at National Forge Company in April of 1947 and was hired to work in the Cost Accounting department, where he spent over three years. He was transferred to the Data Processing Department as the computer age began and worked in this area for 25 years.
In 1956, he became a Charter Member of the N.F.O. Irvine Federal Credit Union. He was on the original Board of Directors, and served as treasurer/manager through 1989, when he retired. He continued on the board and served as secretary for 3 years thereafter.
He and his wife, Dorothy "Dot" moved to Warren in August 1957, and they transferred their church membership to Grace United Methodist Church two years later. Sherry served as usher, board member and chairman on the finance committee and was treasurer for 12 years.
Dot and Sherry enjoyed camping with their children and traveling in their motor-home, making 44 trips to Colorado to visit their son.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. "Dot" Fleming, whom he married on March 25, 1959, at EUB Church in Jamestown, NY; two children, Beverly A. Seder and her husband Jim, of Russell, PA and Gary N. Fleming, of Boulder, CO; two grandsons, Scott Wood, and wife, Rhonda, of DuBois and David Wood, and wife, Jaclyn, of Warren, PA; three great-grandchildren, Philip Wood, Cody Wood and Marlee Wood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia Sue in 1963; and two siblings, Helen Fleming, and James Fleming.
Friends will be received at the Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Penna. Ave E., Warren, on Friday, November 7, 2014, from 10 am until 12 noon, at which time a funeral service will be held, with Rev. Rich Pierson, pastor, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Warren County Humane Society, 212 Elm St. Warren, PA 16365, or to the Grace United Methodist Church.
