Obituary

Mrs. Sally Jean Kittner (1937 – 2016)

It is with a mix of happiness and sadness that we announce the passing, on Monday, October 31, 2016, of our mother Mrs. Sally Jean Kittner. We celebrate Mom's passing as she is now free from the grip of Alzheimer's. We grieve her death because she is no longer with us.

Sally was born in Warren, PA on February 19, 1937, and graduated from Warren Area High School in 1955. She married our father Virgil Kittner, Jr. in 1957 and lived her life with him until he died in 2007. She held roles as a 1960s' stay-at-home mom, Avon Representative, Pleasant Township Grade School cafeteria employee, Holiday Inn banquet server, Mary Kay Young Catering server, and Warren Printing Company assistant. Above all, Sally had special gifts of compassion, playfulness and a love for children. As a Warren County teacher's aide, and in countless other situations, she applied these talents to help others thrive and enjoy their lives.

She volunteered extensively with the First Lutheran Church, Salvation Army, and Lions Club. She delighted in quilting and crafting in Quilters' Night Out and Clarendon Crafters. She enjoyed hiking, biking, and x-country skiing with the Allegheny Outdoor Club and for over fifty years socialized once a month with her high school girlfriends at "Club."

Mom is preceded in death by her parents Eric and Anna Gantz Nelson, sisters Dorothy Gregersen and Carol Decker, and her husband Virgil. Her brother Gerald, with whom she is best of siblings and friends, continues to reside at the Cambridge Warren where she lived since April 2014. He is one of many family members that she leaves behind.

Other surviving family members include her children Deborah Johnson and husband William Johnson (Cincinnati, OH), Cheryl Kittner (Meadville, PA) and companion Joseph Hardisky (McConnell's Mill, PA), Dawn Kittner and husband Gak Stonn (Taos, NM), and David Kittner and wife Evy Kittner (Albrightsville, PA). Grandchildren – who will especially miss her love and attention – are Samuel Fish, Ezekiel Fish, and Lazarus Fish (Meadville, PA); Sean Murphy (Augusta, GA), Blair Murphy (Portland, OR), and Anna Murphy (Columbus, OH); Spyridon Kittner Stonn (Taos, NM); and, Alex, Erik, and Jorge Rivera and Davonna Rivera-Scott (Albrightsville, PA). Eighteen nieces and nephews will remember her as well as numerous friends.

Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc. 1003 Penn. Ave. E., Warren, on Friday, November 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., and at the First Lutheran Church 109 W 3rd Ave, Warren, on Saturday, November 5, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time a funeral service will be held there, with The Rev. Jeffrey Ewing, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Warren, PA.

Donations may be made to the Salvation Army or Lions Club in her memory.
