Ruth J. "Tute" Mills, 88, a lifelong resident of Lander, and recently of Warren PA, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016 at Golden Living -Kinzua Valley of Warren in the Alzheimer's Unit .
Tute was born March 5, 1928, in Lander, PA, the daughter of the late John S. and Olga J. Trask Mills. She was a 1946 graduate of the Lander High School. She managed the Preston's General Store in Lander for quite some time, and then became a Justice of the Peace in Lander. She was then one of the first District Justices in the Commonwealth of Penna. She served for the townships of Farmington, Elk, Glade, and Conewango, and Pine Grove.
Tute was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Warren, and a former Lander United Methodist member, where she played the organ for over forty years, taught Sunday School, and served as a youth director. She also was a Hospice volunteer.
Tute is survived by two sisters, Neva Hagberg and Norma Mills, of Warren; her foster-sister, Betsy Fowler, and husband, Dave, of Knox; nieces and nephews, Aaron Mills, P.H.D., and wife, Linda Blum, P.H.D., of Charlottesville, VA, Ellen Smith, and husband, Dale, of Mt. Lebanon, Coleen Whittaker, and husband, Ken, of Bel Air, MD, Marcia Ziki, and husband, Douglas Vaughn, of Warren, Jane Ziki, of Arlington, VA, Ann Ziki, and partner, Don Van Huben, of Penfield, NY, and Bridget Napier, of Charlottsville, VA; and her close family-friend, Phyllis Wright, of Warren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Vincent "Perk" Mills, Donald Mills, and Leo "Ike" Mills; her sister, Marian Ziki; infant sister, Vivian Mills; and nephew, Mark Ziki.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc. 1003 Penn. Ave. E., Warren, on Friday, June 3, from 5 to 7 p.m., and at the First United Methodist Church parlors, 200 Market Street, Warren, on Saturday, June 4, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time, a funeral service will be held there with Rev. Jon Swart, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Foster Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to send donations should consider the Don Mills Achievement Center, 677 Hospital Dr. Suite J, Warren, PA 16365, or the First United Methodist Church.
