Ruth L. Gruber, 83, of Jamestown, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at UPMC Hamot, Erie. Ruth was born January 18, 1936, in Olean, NY, daughter of Alfred D. and Marian L. (Deming) Tanner. Ruth was a Mayville High School graduate and worked for MRC for 35 years as a timekeeper, from which she retired on February 28, 1991. At age 67, she earned a CNA certificate from Harrisburg Community College. She and her husband enjoyed bowling, archery, and traveling. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and the Comfort Today Program at Tanglewood. She is survived by her two children, Darrall A. (Susan) Gruber, of Ashville, NY, and Kimberly (David) McChesney, of Valprasio, IN; her two sisters, Sherry Johnson, Cookie (John) Boser; three brothers, Wayne A. Tanner, George A. (Peggy) Tanner, and Butch A. (Dorothy) Tanner; 4 grandchildren, Jeremy (Liz) Gruber, Tawn (Travis) Bensink, Matthew McChesney, and Nathan McChesney; 5 great grandchildren, Thandon, Tatum, Tripp, and Talia Bensink and Jonah Gruber; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death on July 24, 2012, by her husband, Robert Richard Gruber, whom she married, July 4, 1954, in Mayville, NY; her sister, Tiny Tressler; an infant sister, Luana Tanner; and her brother, Chuck Tanner. Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday October 10, 2019, from 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday October 11, 2019, at 11 am, with Rev. Allan Jones, pastor of Cable Hollow Community Church, officiating. The family has requested memorial donations be made to Comfort Today Tanglewood Manor, 560 Fairmount Ave, Jamestown, NY 14701.
