Ruth B. Christy, 87, of Warren, Pennsylvania passed away Saturday morning, July 13, 2013, with her family at her side.
Ruth was born on December 9, 1925, at home in Fairview, Pennsylvania and was the youngest child of the late Ralph and Millie Adams. She graduated from Fairview Township-Karns City High School in 1943.
At age 39, while raising her three children, Ruth began attending college classes. In 1971, she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Edinboro College, graduating summa cum laude. She earned her Master of Arts Degree in Education from Clarion College in 1975. Ruth taught third grade at Sheffield Elementary School for 18 years where the annual class Mother's Day recipe collection was greatly anticipated.
Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warren, Pennsylvania, The Women's Club of Warren, the Warren Garden Club, and a past member of the Sheffield Progressive Women's Club.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 61 years, Frank Christy, their daughter, Claudia Christy of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, their son, Douglas Christy of Petrolia, Pennsylvania, their son Roger and daughter-in-law Patricia Christy of Danville, California, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Dorothy, Geraldine, Ralph, Flossie, and Clifford (Jack).
Friends are invited to attend a visitation from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, 1003 Pennsylvania Avenue East, Warren, Pennsylvania. A visitation will also be held at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church, 200 Market Street, Warren, Pennsylvania with the Reverend Dr. Jeffrey D. Sterling officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. A private burial service will held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 19, 2013, at the New Salem Cemetery in Annisville, Pennsylvania.
The family would like to thank the staff of Warren General Hospital for their professional care and kindness given to Ruth and to the entire family. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, aunt, teacher and "always a Lady."
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the First United Methodist Church of Warren, Pennsylvania, the Ruth M. Smith Center in Sheffield, Pennsylvania, or the Warren Salvation Army.
