Russell Lynn Gregerson, 75, a resident of Cherry Grove, PA passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Warren General Hospital. Russell was born August 16, 1938 in Cherry Grove, PA, the son of the late Andrew and Elma Wilbur Gregerson.
Russell was proud to say that he was the last boy born in Cherry Grove with the help of a midwife, his grandmother, the late Cora Wilbur. He lived his entire life in Cherry Grove.
Russell had many different jobs throughout his life. He worked as an oil pumper in the Arnot for Bower and Erickson's. He worked with the railroad in Kinzua, PA, loading rail cars with wood. He was a founding member of the Cherry Grove Fire Dept. Russell also was a forest fire warden and would attend many get-togethers dressed as Smokey the Bear. Russell was a Cherry Grove Twp. supervisor for at least 47 years. Russell was a foreman for Penn Dot for close to 25 years. In his spare time, Russell ran the Gregerson Mountain Laurel Farm and also raised cows, pigs, goats and chickens. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family and friends. Russ was a long time member of the Cherry Grove Fire Hall.
Russell will be remembered by his compassion for people. He took many people in his home and made sure they had what they needed to get back on their feet. Rarely ever asking for anything in return only to pass along what he taught them. He and his son Marvin where instrumental in building the Mystery Well replica behind the Fire Hall, and Russ was also a big part of the Cherry Grove Home Week celebration.
He truly loved his wife, Susan, children and grandchildren. He supported his children and grandchildren at many activities. Football and wrestling matches you could hear him and his voice cheering them on. His saying was you learn from mistakes, if you screw it up, start over, make it right.
Russell was the youngest of thirteen children. Surviving are sisters, A. Elise Shaffer(Norman) of Lander, PA and Josephine Baker of Clarendon, PA.
Also surviving are his wife Susan Gebhart Gregerson, whom he wed in Warren 52 years ago on October 13, 1962. His son, Todd Gregerson, his daughter Molly Gregerson, son, Steven and wife Carol Gregerson; and daughter, Jenny and husband Scott Rose, all of Cherry Grove. Seven grandchilren, Steven, Nicole, Austin, Emma and Abby Gregerson, and Shalyn and Chyann Rose, His two best companions, his dogs Gunner and Taz. and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Russell had a son, Marvin Gregerson who passed away in 1987; also siblings that passed, are sisters, Ethel Kreider, Anna Bateman, Bertha Gregerson, Edna Atwood; and brothers, Magnus, Louis, Donald, Markus, Lawrence, Roy and Cecil Gregerson.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc. on Sunday, July 6, from 5 to 8 pm. Calling hours will also be held at the Cherry Grove Fire Hall on Monday, July 7, from 11a.m to 1 p.m., at which time a funeral service will be held.
Burial will follow at the Gregerson Cemetery, Cherry Grove.
