Robert S. McKelvy, Jr., 77, of Warren, died Thursday, July 21, 2016, at the Rouse Home. Robert was born July 20, 1939, in Warren, PA. He was the son of the late Robert S. and Adeline E (McConnell) McKelvy, Sr.
Robert served in the US Navy from 1957 to 1960. He attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained a dual Bachelor's degree in Art and History. He then went on to Buffalo State University where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts. Robert was a teacher in the Warren County School District; first teaching at Sheffield, later teaching for several years at Tidioute, and ultimately retiring from Warren Area High School.
For a short time, Robert was a member of the Eagles Club. He will be remembered as a people-person, and remained active hiking part of the Appalachian Trail and obtaining his commercial pilot's license. In addition to flying, he enjoyed sailing on his sailboat, reading, and listening to Blue Grass music.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Suzette Berdine, of Warren; one daughter, Kimberley Hydo, and husband, Steven, of Buford, GA; and his cousin, who remained very supportive during his illness, Andrea Glotz Grolemund, and husband, Ray, of Kane; and three nieces and nephews. He'll be sadly missed by friends and family.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death on November 5, 1995, by his wife, Pamela James McKelvy, whom he married January 26, 1962; and numerous aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be at Inter-Faith Chapel, Warren State Hospital, N. Warren, on Wednesday, July 27, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Marcus Briggs, chaplain, Rouse Home and Warren General Hospital, officiating.
