Obituary

Robert (Hank) D. Caldwell, 88, died at the Kane Hospital on Thursday, October 22, 2015. He lived in Warren for over 50 years and in the last three years was a resident at the Kane Lutheran Home. He was born November 29, 1926 in Guffey, PA in McKean County. He was the son of Harry Blaine and Ethel Leoria (Young) Caldwell. As a young man he served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 aboard the U.S.S. Lake Champlain. He spent the majority of his working career in heavy construction and road construction. His two principle employers were Hunkin Conkey and Penn DOT. He worked as an operating engineer and in various supervisory positions. He retired from Penn DOT in 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Dorothy M. (Barber) Caldwell who died in 1994. In addition, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters: Earl (Bill) Caldwell, Harold Caldwell, Kahle Caldwell, Evelyn (Caldwell) Payne, Wilda (Caldwell) Birch, John Caldwell, and Edward Caldwell. He is survived by his current wife, JoAnn L. (Johnson) Caldwell, whom he married on October 14, 1995. He is also survived by his son, Robert E. Caldwell and wife, Jennie, as well as his daughter, Lori L. VanCise and husband, Larry, all of Warren. He is survived by several grandchildren, Amy (Caldwell) Stewart and husband, Rob, Jeffrey Caldwell and wife, Sue, John Hamm and wife, Christie, and Nathan Hamm. He also loved four great grandchildren, Rachel Stewart, Alaina Stewart, Luke Caldwell and Teigan Caldwell. In addition to his own children, he is survived by three step-children, Antionette Simpson, Walter H. Barber III and wife, Penny, and Steven Barber and wife Dianne. Surviving step-grandchildren include Hope, Michelle, Christopher and wife, Sarah, Caitlyn and husband, John, Jocelyn and Billy. Step-great grandchildren are Lucas, Brinley, Ava and Jayla. Hank was known for his faith in God and his outstanding work ethic. Over the years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching wrestling, a good meal, but most of all, he loved his family. He was wise, kind, gentle and patient. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. E. Warren, PA, on Sunday, October 25, from 6-8 pm, and at the First Church of the Nazarene, 907 Penna. Ave. E., Warren for one hour prior to a funeral Service to be held there at 11 am on Monday, October 26, with Rev. Jay Maier, officiating. Burial will follow at the Warren County Memorial Park. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 907 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, PA 16365.
