Robert "Bob" Vernon Johnson, 88, of Russell, Pa., passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the Rouse Home.
Bob was born May 18, 1932, in Warren, Pa., the son of the late George and Mildred Samuelson Johnson. He was a 1950 graduate of Warren Area High School and served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp from 1953 to 1954, during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He then was employed with the Struthers Wells Company as a Lab Supervisor for twenty- eight years, and then worked at the Penelec Station in Warren for ten years, from which he retired. Bob had attended the Cable Hollow Community Church, and the Wiltsie Community Church. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed hunting and cutting firewood. Bob was extremely capable, he built two houses and was blessed with a sardonic, playful sense of humor. Bob loved his family and especially loved his grandchildren and his canine companion, Lucy.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Betty Jeanette Garvin Johnson whom he married in 1955; four children, Robert (Rene) Johnson of Russell, Joyce (Greg Leofsky) of Youngsville, Dawn (Jeff) Keller of Russell, and Faith (Kevin) Thomas of Russell; a brother; Rev. Russell Johnson of Russell, a sister, Nancy Johnson of Warren; eleven grandsons and two granddaughters, ten great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Carolyn Sorensen and Lois Setterholm.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Pallbearers for burial in the Thompson Hill Cemetery will be Joshua Benton, Jesse Benton, Toby Keller, Patrick Ross, Nick Thomas, and Alex Thomas.
