Rickia J. "Joanna" Freeburg, 87, of 601 Rouse Avenue, Apt 215, Youngsville, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at the Rouse Home. She was born June 20, 1928, in Sayre, PA. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Clara (Maud) Eckland.
Joanna was raised in Tonawanda until her family moved to Warren to take care of her father's parents. She was a 1946 graduate of Warren High School. Upon graduation, her first job was at the New Process Company. After a few years in Texas, she and her husband, Richard, moved to Meadville for work, and then returned back to Warren in 1959 where she held many positions at local businesses and organizations. She had worked as a secretary at Warren High School for a few years. Joanna then worked as the administrative secretary for the American Cancer Society for six years, at which time she also served as a chairman of the Jail Advisory Committee, and chairman of Hospice. Ultimately, she retired from the American Heart Association as executive director part time after 11 years. She was also on the Pleasant Township Zoning Committee, assisted with the election poll, and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Richard E. Freeburg, whom she married August 28, 1948, in Warren; three children, Rick Freeburg, and wife, Jody, Waterford, PA, Rickia Bright, and husband, Tom, Greer, SC, and Rhonda Decker, and husband, Rick, Warren, PA; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Timothy David Bright; and two brothers, George and Louis Eckland.
Friends will be received at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 Market Street, Warren, on Saturday, October 17, from 4 to 5 p.m., at which time, a memorial service will be held there with The Rev. Jeffrey Ott, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
