Obituary

Richard J. Morris, 77, passed away at home on March 10, 2015.    He was the son of Joseph and Gertrude Morris of Jamestown, NY.  Richard later resided in Youngsville and then in Warren for the last 49 years.

After graduating from Falls Church High School in Virginia, Richard studied at St. Bonaventure University.  His lifelong career as a meticulous design engineer took him from Falconer Plate Glass to Blackstone Corporation/Valeo of Jamestown , NY.   Upon retirement after 34 years, he was Director of Engineering and then Vice President for 4 years at Ecko Tool and Die Company in Lakewood, NY.   Work related travels took him to many foreign countries, which interested him greatly.

Richard was an avid skier for 60 years, earning the highest level of full certification for PSIA ski instructors in 1969 at Lake Placid.   He was one of the seven original instructors at Peak n' Peek ski resort and taught at Cockaigne in Clymer, NY.  He became Ski School Director at Peak n' Mountain in Youngsville and later taught at Holiday Valley.

Richard will be remembered for his many years of commitment to girls softball as a coach in the Little League of Warren, as a member of the League's Board of Directors, and as a conductor of pitching clinics.   He also was a dedicated umpire for Little League, for PIAA high school , and for ASA and NSA girls fast pitched softball.   He umpired the NSA World Championships, as well.

Richard also had a lifelong interest in model railroading and was known for his accuracy of details in his HO and later his O gauge layouts.

Richard is survived by his wife Susan; his daughters, Kathleen (Travis) Lauger, Youngsville; Nancy Morris, Warren; Kelly Morris, Warren; Erin (Dan) Hoffman, Warren; and son Scott (Susan) Morris, Steilcoom, WA.  His 5 grandchildren are Seth Hoffman, Shane and Arin Morris, and Riley and Logan Lauger.  His great-grandchild is Alivia Hoffman.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Glone Hammond of Hamburg, NY, and Patricia Foy of Florida.

Richard will be remembered for his staunch loyalty to his Irish heritage, his quick wit, his readiness with a joke, and his focused approach to dealing with life's challenges.

He was a member of Holy Redeemer Church, where he had been a member of Holy Name Society and had served as an usher.

Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, on Friday, March 13, from 6 to 8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Holy Redeemer R.C., 11 Russell Street, Warren, on Saturday, March 14, at 10 a.m.  Fr. James Gutting, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the Mausoleum of The Ascension in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions made to Paws Along the River, 212 Elm Street, Warren, PA 16365; Warren County Youth Baseball Softball Association, PO Box 451, Warren, PA, or the Cancer Center of Warren, 2 Crescent Park W., Warren, PA 16365.
