Obituary

The Rev. George B. Johnson passed away on Dec.16, 2020 at the Rouse Estate in Youngsville, PA due to health complications and Covid-19. He was born in Warren, PA on October 31, 1935, the third son of Norman H. and Elsie Henderson Johnson. He began his education at the former East St. School in Warren, continued at Cleveland Hill Elementary School in Cheektowaga, NY and was a 1953 graduate of Lafayette High School, Buffalo, NY. He graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1957 and from the Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, NJ in 1960. George was ordained as a minister in the United Presbyterian Church in 1961. He pastored churches in Lodi, NY, Hector NY and Wilkes-Barre, PA. After a 31 year Pastorate with First Welsh Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre he retired and moved back to Warren in 2003. While in Warren he served as Parish Associate with First Presbyterian Church PCUSA where he and his wife Connie were the church historians for many years. During his life in ministry, he officiated at hundreds of events for weddings, baptisms, funerals, graduations, civic events, all while supporting the needs of his congregants. Throughout his life he was a devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin, and a friend and support to many. George was a renowned historian of Warren County, PA in his retirement years and was on the Board of Directors of the Warren County Historical Society and made countless contributions. He was also on the Board of Directors for the Watson Memorial Home and was an active member of The Lake Erie Presbytery. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Connie) Eddy H. Johnson, three stepdaughters, Caryn Eichelberger, Lebanon, OH, Cathy (Tom) Hauck, Somerset, NJ and Julie Henderson, Dallas, TX, along with his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Liz) Brown, Warren, PA, Ruth Johnson, Williamsville, NY and Carol Johnson, Henrietta, NY. He is also survived by step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, William E., Norman W, and Richard H. Johnson. A celebration of life will be held at First Presbyterian Church Warren, PA at a later date. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery, Warren, PA at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Warren, PA, Warren County Historical Society, Watson Memorial Home, The Rouse Estate or a charity that is close to your heart. The Peterson-Blick Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
