Rebecca L. Coen Wilks, 64, of Warren, PA, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday July 11, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on September 1, 1957, in Washington, PA., to the late William Coen, and Ella Coen, who survives her. Rebecca was a graduate of Upper St. Clair High School, Clarion University and Wilkes University. She was a German teacher in the Downingtown Area School District retiring in September 2019, after 20 years of teaching
She enjoyed her many travels to the Bavarian regions of Europe with her students and family, puzzles, crocheting, reading and the occasional casino trips. Rebecca will be forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother "nanny", sister, teacher, and friend to many.
Rebecca is survived by her husband, Joseph W. Wilks, whom she married on November 18, 1978; five children, Nathaniel "Nate" Wilks and fiancé Susan, Rachel Hoffman and husband Brad, Leah Wilks, and boyfriend Brian, all of Pittsburgh, PA., Mary Diehl, and husband Jeff of Canonsburg, PA., Joseph "Joey" Wilks of N. Augusta, S.C.; four siblings, Pam Ackerman and husband Jeff of Ephrata, PA., Billie Sue Sayres and husband Dave of Denver, PA., MaryBeth Miesemer of Akron, PA., and Jeff Coen of Ephrata, PA.; five grandchildren, Tyler, Tommy, Jamie, Jillian, and Will; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the First Lutheran Church of Warren, Third Ave. and East Street on Friday, July 15, 2022, from 6 until 8pm and on Saturday July 16, for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held there at 11 am, with The Rev. Jeffrey Ewing, pastor, officiating.
