Ramon (Ray) P. Harris Sr., 77, of Russell, PA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 17, 2015 at UPMC Hamot Medical Center of Erie, PA.
Ramon (Ray) P. Harris Sr., 77, of Russell, PA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 17, 2015 at UPMC Hamot Medical Center of Erie, PA.
Ray was born June 17, 1938 in Johnstown, PA. He is the son of the late Stephen F. and R. Audrey (Himes) Harris. He was a 1956 graduate of Johnstown Central High School, and attended the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
He served as a Sergeant in the National Guard and later as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was employed at the United Refining Company in Warren, PA, for over twenty years, from which he retired. He then worked for Tex-Par for several years.
Ray enjoyed the Men's Senior League at the Cable Hollow Golf Club, and was a Hot Rod enthusiast. He was a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the Frewsburg, NY American Legion. He was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Ray served for over ten years as a Pine Grove Township Supervisor.
He will be greatly missed by many friends, colleagues, and especially his family, which he enjoyed immensely
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Paula Elaine Harris. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn E. (Saydak) Harris; son, Ramon P. Harris, Jr., and his wife Donna, of Lancaster, NY; daughter, Dr. Stephanie M. Galey, and her husband Dave, of Saegertown, PA; son Matthew S. Harris and his wife Lara, of Liberty Hill, TX; two grandchildren, Julia and Michael Harris; sister, Arlene Fisher and her husband Roger, of Holsopple, PA; many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Piper.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Russell Volunteer Fire Department - 111 Perrigo Lane, Pine Grove Beautification Committee - PO Box 404, Cable Hollow Golf Course - 405 Norberg Rd. all in Russell, PA 16345 or a charity of your choice.
An informal Celebration of Life will be held at Cable Hollow Golf Course at 405 Norberg Rd., Russell, PA on Wednesday, July 22 from 5-7PM preceded by a 15-minute service.
