IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Philip E.
Stewart
April 5, 1936 – February 5, 2014
Philip "Chic" Eugene Stewart, 77, of Warren, died at home on Tuesday, February 5, 2014 due to complications from Parkinson's.
He was born to the late Dorthea and James Stewart, April 5, 1936 in Warren, PA. Phil graduated from Warren Area High School In 1954. He married his wife of 54 years, Florence "Toni" Stewart, on July 18, 1959.
Phil served as a Specialist Third Class in the Army from October 15, 1954 through July 24, 1957. Later, he worked at Sylvania, Loranger's and Truck-Lite where he retired as a Quality Control Manager.
Phil was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed bowling and spent a lot of his free time playing baseball and softball over the years. He enjoyed coaching youth sports, and he was a dedicated fan of the Atlanta Braves and Dallas Cowboys. In his ball career, Chic had the opportunity to bat against Satchel Paige and hit a homerun off of softball legend Eddie "The King" Feigner in a game against The King and his Court.
Phil was known for his "larger than life" stories, which he always claimed to be true. He loved some of the simpler things in life; a good steak, a cold can of Pepsi, his bird dogs, hunting at Hemlock, fishing at Chapman Dam, and nine innings on the ball field, but most of all, he loved his wife and his family. He had a great sense of humor and was loved by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
In addition to his wife, Phil is survived by his sons Rodney J. Stewart and his wife, Susan Stewart, Ransom, Kentucky, and Robert J. Stewart and his wife, Amy Stewart, Russell. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Derek Stewart, Adam Stewart, Brandon Stewart, Rachel Stewart, Alaina Stewart, Kenna Smith and David Witherow. He is survived by one great-grandchild, Kenlee Mehmet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorthea and James Stewart; his brother, James Stewart; his sister, Etta Venn; and his son, Randall J. Stewart.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Pennsylvania Avenue, East, Warren, on Sunday, February 16, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held there on Monday, February 17 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Haley, pastor, Grace United Methodist Church, officating. Burial will follow at Oakland cemetery.
