Carnovale Sr.

Peter J. Carnovale Sr., 88, of Warren, PA, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023, after a battle with Mesothelioma. He was a kind and caring man and will be missed by many. Pete was born March 18, 1935, in Johnsonburg, PA, the son of the late Frank and Catherine (Grovanz) Carnovale. In addition to his parents, Pete is preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley A. Carnovale whom he married June 29, 1957, at Sacred Heart Church, St. Mary's, PA; brothers, Bruno and Frank Carnovale; and sister, Victoria Carnovale. Pete is survived by his children Matthew and wife Lily Carnovale of Fleetwood, PA; Mary Blair of Warren and Jay Fitch of Sheffield and Peter Carnovale Jr. and Rosemary Anderson of Warren. He also leaves behind his partner of the past 12 years, Joyce Trayer of Youngsville, PA. His five grandchildren include Mary Skinner and Matt's children Matthew P. (Samantha), Gregory C. (Miriam), Kaitlin, and William J. He has two great grandchildren, Marshall Paul (Greg) and Bernice Shirley (Matthew). He is also survived by his sister, Rose (Wortman) Salter of Kersey, PA; sister-in-law, Rosemary Carnovale of St. Mary's, PA; and close family members Joe and Betsy Azzato of Russell. He will also be fondly remembered by Joyce's grandchildren Alex and Abel Robinault of Indianapolis, IN, and Ashley Morris of Sugar Grove; Joyces' daughter Mindi and spouse Bill Nobles; and her son Michael Trayer and Kris Olszewski. He has several nieces and nephews. Pete graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1953 and then attended IUP where he received a BS in Education in January of 1960. He then received a Masters in Education from the University of Pittsburgh along with many continuing credits in education. He was a teacher at Eisenhower High School and the Warren County Vocational Technical school. Later in his career he served as an administrator at the Vo-Tech and ultimately as the principal at Sheffield Area High School and then Tidioute Area School (K to 12). He also worked evenings for 11 years at Warren Times Observer as a photo engraver and proof-reader. After retiring from the school district, he worked as director of the Area Agency on Aging (Experience Inc.). Pete was a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church where he served as eucharistic minister and was involved with the Cursillo movement. He served on the board of directors for the Salvation Army and on the board of Warren County Crimestoppers. He was an interim city councilman, a volunteer at the Warren County Transit Authority, a little league baseball coach and was co-proprietor of Joyce and Pete's Tours. He loved to fish, play bocce ball, was an amateur photographer, followed Pittsburgh professional sports all his life and spent many winters in Jensen Beach, Florida. Friends will be received at Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, 11 Russell St., Warren, PA, on Friday, November 10, from 10:00am to 11:00am, at which time a Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held, with Rev. Stephen Schrieber, officiating. A light lunch will be served after the service. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions for Pete may be made to the Salvation Army, 311 Beech St., Warren, PA.
