Obituary

Paul D. Brohn, 88, of Warren, PA, passed away September 4th at Warren General Hospital while surrounded by loving family members. He was born in Flint, MI, graduated from Flint Technical H.S., graduated from Flint Junior College, and found his life-long passion for forestry while attending Michigan State University. During this time, Paul spent summers in Oregon's Fremont National Forest. He graduated from MSU with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. Paul married Betty Hultquist, his wife of sixty years, on September 12th, 1959. After college graduation, Paul joined the United States Forest Service and began his professional forestry career on the Nicolet National Forest in Wisconsin. He then worked on national forests in Missouri and as District Ranger in Ohio before transferring in 1971 to the Allegheny National Forest in Ridgway, PA as District Ranger. During this time, he managed the selection and transport of the 1973 Capitol's Christmas Tree. Then in 1983, he transferred to Warren, PA serving as Public Affairs Officer until his retirement in April 1991. A year after Forest Service retirement, Paul joined Warren County Cooperative Extension as a Program Assistant in promoting woodlot management for private forest landowners. This work was under the auspices of the Pennsylvania Forest Stewardship Program and continued until his "second retirement" in 2007. Through the years, Paul enjoyed community theater, choral singing, working with youth groups, and landscaping around his home. He served in the United States Air Force in 1951 and was a member of the Society of American Foresters, Pennsylvania Forestry Association, Pennsylvania Forest Stewards and the City of Warren Street Landscape Committee. He is survived by wife, Betty (Hultquist) Brohn, daughters, Belinda Brohn and Brenda Brohn, brother, Fredrick Brohn, sister, Marianne (Brohn) Viau, and many nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by Ottilia (Pleger) Brohn, mother, William H. Brohn, father, William D. Brohn, brother, and Ted Cosselmon, nephew A Celebration of Love memorial service, officiated by Pastor Joel Dingeldein, will be held on Saturday, October 12th, 1:30 PM at Warren's Calvary Baptist Church, 445 Conewango Avenue. It will be followed by a reception in the church's Fellowship Hall. Interment will be Oct. 14th at Warren County Memorial Park. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the new Crescent Park Healing Garden (please specify "for trees"). Mail to: City of Warren/Citizens Memorial Tree Fund/318 W.
