In 1968 he started his own contracting business, Briggs Construction Company, remodeling homes and worked as a contractor for Ridge Homes of which he built many around Warren and the surrounding areas. Later he worked as a carpenter at the Warren State Hospital from which he retired. He was a former member of North Star Lodge 241, where he held his Mason's 32nd degree.  He also was a member of the Warren YMCA, and remained active swimming and weightlifting into his 80's. He loved and cherished the many years of companionship with Linda Samargya, traveling, dancing, dining out, just being together, as well as, vacationing and enjoying holiday visits with her children, Brad and Beth. He enjoyed listening to Bluegrass and Country music. In his earlier years, he formed a band with his brother Junior, Pete Himes, Ray Campbell, and others; playing for many square dances and parties around the Warren and Jamestown area. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, yard work, woodworking and antique cars. During his retirement he completely restored a 1941 Packard with help from his good friend, Walt Smith.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Foster Anderson, of Starbrick; and three sons, Daniel Briggs, and wife, Debbie, Floyd Briggs, and wife, Diane, and Greg Briggs, and wife, Patricia, all of Warren.  Paul is also survived by his companion of 16 years, Linda Samargya, of Warren; 8 grandchildren, Jody Lynn Thomson, Nathan Foster, Eric Briggs, Amanda Signorino, Vanessa Rogerson, Christina Briggs, Jordan Briggs and Shaylynn Briggs; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.  Also, by 3 step-grandchildren; Jennifer Sobkowski, Joshua McKinney, Nicholas McKinney, and 7 step-great-grandchildren.
