Nancy Lynn Carlson, 80, of Kinzua Road, Warren, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at her residence.
Nancy was born December 15, 1936 in Kane, PA. She is the daughter of the late Stanley H. and Elizabeth (Pratt) Carlson. She grew up in Ludlow, PA and was a 1954 graduate of Kane High School. Nancy attended the Moriah Lutheran Church in Ludlow, PA. She was a very loving, sensitive, and spiritual person.
Nancy obtained a B.S. in Art Education at Edinboro College. Upon graduating, she was retained there as Assistant Dean of Women. She obtained her M.A. from Ohio University in Athens. Then, Nancy worked at the University of Wisconsin, and later left for Kansas University to obtain her Ph.D. She set up a Rape Crisis Center at the Maryland University, and several other Universities. She was also employed at the State University of New York, New Paltz Campus, followed by the Rhode Island University in East Greenwich. She established a private practice as a Psychologist in East Greenwich, RI and another in Falmouth, ME, traveling often between the two. She resided in ME for more than thirty years and was most recently a resident of Virginia Beach, VA.
She is survived by one sister, Janice Adams and husband Jack, of Canandaigua, NY; one brother, Robert Carlson of Warren, PA; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Carlson of Warren, PA; four nephews, John Adams, Tim Carlson, Terry Carlson, and Christopher Carlson; and four nieces, Cindy (Carlson) Shelow, Wendy (Carlson) Gee, Janelle (Adams) Pettine, and Michelle (Carlson) Johnson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Carlson.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Gibbs Hill Cemetery in Ludlow, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to a charity of choice.
