Miner Stewart Lauffenburger, 97, of 3397 Cobham Park Road, Warren, PA, died peacefully on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at his residence.
Miner was born November 19, 1915, in Warren, the son of the late Albert and Florence Wheeler Lauffenburger. He was a lifelong resident of Cobham Park Road, and a 1933 graduate of Warren High School. As an auto mechanic, Miner was employed with the former Parish Battery and the Swift Pontiac Garage, among other local garages. Many folks will remember him for his exemplary skills for working on and rebuilding carburetors. Throughout his lengthy career, he helped thousands, and became a friend to many.
An avid outdoorsman, a long time member of the National Rifle Association, and a staunch Republican, Miner enjoyed hunting, shooting and fishing. He also took great pride in working outdoors at his home, taking care of the flowers and his garden. Among his other interests were golfing, bowling, and he especially enjoyed his family. He will be sadly missed by many in the community.
He is survived by two sons, Raymond Lauffenburger and wife Sue, York, SC, and Kelly Lauffenburger and wife Delda, Olatha KS; one daughter, Rose Marie Gregory, Marshfield, MO; seven grandchildren, Vance Lauffenburger and wife Michelle, Russell, PA, Ramona Barry and husband William, Akron, OH, Emily Onuffer and husband Steven, Warren, PA, Ruby Pope and husband Charlie, Scandia, PA, Lee Gregory, Marshfield, MO, and Kyle Lauffenburger, Olathe, KS; great grandchildren, Jacob, Alex, and Libby Lauffenburger, Nathan and Lindsay Onuffer, and Benjamin Wright; many nieces and nephews; and his canine companion "Baby"
In addition to his parents, Miner was preceded in death on November 9, 2008 by his wife, Eleanor Sperry Lauffenburger , whom he married on July 12, 1938 in Warren; eight brothers, Ernest, Gib, Norman, Leon, Paul, Ward, Bob, and infant brother, Stanley; a sister Florence; and good friend Daniel Portzer.
The family of Miner wishes to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all of his many friends in the community, and also to his caregivers at his home in recent months.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, PA. 16365, on Wednesday, May 29, from 5 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, May 30, at The First Church of the Nazarene, 907 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, with Rev. Dr. G.A. Hankins, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
