Merle Clifford "Tony" Brown, 80, of Schantz Street, Warren, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 3, 2013.
Tony was born September 9, 1932, in Warren, PA, the son of the late Donald and Twila Fay Brown. He served in the US Army for 20 years, working in the missile field and building flight lines. Upon his retirement, he worked at the Warren State Hospital for 18 years as a mechanic, and continued thereafter at the Bus Barn and car parts stores in the Warren area. Tony could often be found at car shows, military air shows, hunting and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a hard working man of his word; always willing to help people. Tony was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Moose Club, and the Military Retirees Group.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janette Brown, whom he married December 6, 1952; three children, Ronald Brown, and wife, Alyce, New Baden, IL, Lanette Currier, and husband, Russell, Matthews, VA, and Scott Brown, and wife, Deborah, Waynesboro, PA; eight grandchildren, Jason, Stacey, Christopher, Timothy, Brandy, Jeremy, Colton and Anthony; eight great-grandchildren, Alex, Audrey, Andrew, Juliana, Chelsea, Ananiesa, Connor and Kaine; three siblings, Helen Reist, Shirley Hawley, and husband, Albert, and Larry Brown, and wife, Joyce, all of Warren, PA.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by five siblings, Donald L. Brown, Lois Collins, Nancy Brown-Wright, Allen Brown and Clyde Brown.
Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Monday, July 8, 2013, from 2 to 3 p.m., at which time, a funeral service will be held there with Rev. Marcus Briggs, pastor, Rouse Warren Co. Home and Warren General Hospital, officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be at Warren County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project; P.O. Box 758517; Topeka, Kansas 66675.
