Merle R. "Bob" Eakin, 90, of Pleasant Township, died Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Bob was born November 23, 1926, in Vandalia, IL. He is the son of the late Merle and Ruby Eakin.
Since he was 18, Bob has worked in the oil industry in various places throughout the United States. In the late 1970's, he moved to Warren and worked for UGI; then later owned and operated CMS and never really retired. He continued to work and consult with various oilfield colleagues into his 80s. In addition to working, he was an avid gardener and always had a large garden at his home. He was a member of Pleasant Community Church, the Eagles Club and the American Legion.
He is survived by his son, Ken Eakin, and wife, Tracy, of Plano, TX; three grandchildren, Meg McCabe, and husband, Colton, of Laramie, WY, Connor Eakin, of New York, NY, and Nolan Eakin, who lives at home in Plano, TX; three sisters, Joyce Harris, of Dexter, MO, Judy Baker, and husband, Paul, of Mansfield, IL, and Janice Hopwood, of Lebonan, IN; one brother, Richard Eakin, of Bloomington, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death on December 21, 2015, by his wife of 62 years, Billie Louise Eakin, whom he missed dearly.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc. 1003 Penn. Ave. E., Warren, on Tuesday, January 3, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time a funeral service will be held there, with Rev. Michael Poindexter, pastor, Pleasant Community Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution should consider Pleasant Community Church, 673 Pleasant Dr., Warren, PA 16365.
