Melvin David Davis, 73, of Woodberry Lane , Warren , PA , passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.

Melvin was born September 26, 1939, in Keyser, West Virginia , the son of the late Parent and Sara Pennington Davis. He was a 1958 graduate of Keyser High School, where he was a 2 year All American and state champion in football. He was later inducted into the West Virginia Hall of Fame in 1994. He was an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police; and was also a member of the Eagles Club, American Legion and Struthers, where he played Santa for many years at their annual Christmas party.

A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband, Melvin will be remembered by his family and many friends for his wonderful sense of humor. He was an avid sports fan; and also enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, the Kentucky Derby and playing poker with his friends.

He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Lynn Davis, and fiancé, Jason, Warren, PA and Betty Jo Davis, and companion, Richard, Warren, PA; one son, Mel David Davis, and wife, Heather, Corry, PA; his granddaughter and primary care-giver, Nicole Lynn Davis, grandson, Cotie Snyder and granddaughter, Natasha Snyder; three great-grandchildren, Lhanden Davis, Breht Smith and Emmett Snyder; two siblings, Ellen Hartman, MD and Warren "Jr." Davis, Sheffield, PA; and his wife of 35 years, Betty Davis, Ashville, NY .

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tieka Marie Snyder; sister, Carolyn Sawyer and brother, James Davis.

Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Tuesday, April 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held there on Wednesday, April 10 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. G. A. Hankins, pastor, First Church Of The Nazarene, officiating.

Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Warren, PA.
