Mary Carol Nelson, 80, of 215 Conewango Street, Russell, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Golden Living - Kinzua Valley Nursing Center.

Carol was born April 20, 1931, in Russell, PA., the daughter of the late Theodore LeGrande Russell and Blanche O. White Russell Johnson. Carol was a 1949 graduate of Warren High School and was employed for thirty years at the New Process/ Blair Corporation from which she retired in 1996.  She also volunteered in the VIP Program at Russell Elementary School for over fifteen years. Carol was a sixty-nine year member of the Russell United Methodist Church joining in 1943, where she was active in the Wednesday and Thursday Circle, serving on the Board of Directors for the Day Care, was a Church Council Member, a member of the choir, was on the newsletter committee and also served as a delegate to the annual conference for many years. Carol was also a member of the Calvary Singers and was presently the secretary of the Russell VFD Auxiliary.  She also enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two sons, Robert A. Nelson and his wife Linda, Russell and Donald E. Nelson and his wife Susan, Warren; three daughters, Regina Lawton, Russell, Linda R. Gettings and her husband Paul, Rochester, NY and Janice E. Lawton, Arcade, NY; two brothers, Theodore Russell and his wife Charlotte, Warren,  and David Johnson and his wife Marcia, Russell; two sisters, Dorothy Russell Ohmer, Russell,  and Shirley Ramon, Warren; fifteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on September 5, 1989 by her husband, John L. Nelson, whom she married on September 26, 1952; a grandson and twin great grandsons.

Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Thursday, March 29, 2012 from 5-8 pm and at the Russell United Methodist Church on Friday, March 30, 2012 for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held there at 11:00 am, with Rev. David Heckman, pastor, Russell United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
