Mary Ellen Barger, 90, of Warren, PA, and formerly of Newport News and Roanoke, VA, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at the Watson Memorial Home. Mary Ellen was born April 11, 1931, in Roanoke VA, the daughter of the late William Alden and Mary Ragland Parker. She is a direct descendant of Pocahontas and the Powhatan Tribe of Native Americans. She was born and raised in Roanoke and was a graduate of Jefferson High School. She studied Computer Science at Thomas Nelson Community College. Mary Ellen was an accomplished seamstress and made beautiful clothing for her family. She had a lovely singing voice and a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed summer Saturdays at VA Beach, playing Gin Rummy with her daughters, drawing, reading historical novels, and biking on warm summer evenings. She will be long remembered by those who knew her as a beautiful and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by three children, Anna Licia Gaskin and her husband Tom of Warren, PA, Victoria Lynn Willson and her husband Brooke Willson, of Glen Allen, VA, and Eric Jonathan Barger and his wife Shirlyn of Alexandria, VA; thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; four nieces and three nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by a sister, Jackie Rudrud, and brothers Harold and William Parker. Friends and family will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral home Inc., 1003 Pennsylvania Ave. East, Warren, PA, on Friday, September 24, from 4 to 6 pm. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 25, at 2 PM at the Oakland Cemetery, Warren.
