Obituary

Marvin L. "Bud" Merritt, 75, of 339 Cobham Park Rd., died unexpectedly at his residence, on Sunday, December 15, 2002.

Mr. Merritt was born February 7, 1927, in Warren, PA, the son of the late Rollin and Eva Samuelson Merritt. Mr. Merritt attended Warren High School, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, while the church was under construction, and helped lay the corner stone with H.A. Backstrom. He was also involved as a Sunday School teacher, and a former youth group leader. Mr Merritt served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, as a shipfitter, on the USS Coaster Harbor, in the South Pacific. He later was employed as a Foreman at GTE Sylvania for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie Lackey Merritt, whom he married on July 16, 1949 in Warren; one son, Jeffrey Merritt, Warren: one daughter, Judy Ward, Warren; two sisters, Mrs. Lee (Marjorie) Olsen, Warren, and Mrs. William (Ethelyn) Johnson, Vero Beach, FL; five grandchildren; one step grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Calvin Merritt; and a sister, Betty Rouch.

Friends may call at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc, 1003 Penn Ave., E., on Tuesday December 17, from 7-9 p.m., and one hour prior to a funeral service, to be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am, at Calvary Baptist Church, 445 Conewango Ave., with Rev. Rod Ankrom, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
