Martha J. Winans, 90, of Warren passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice House. Marty was born on April 30, 1929 in Warren, to Cecil and Helen (St. John) Winans. She was a graduate of Warren High School and Ohio Wesleyan University. She worked a schoolteacher in Buffalo and Cuba, NY, and following an extended period in the Virgin Islands and Coronado, California worked in Washington, DC as a congressional aide and as owner and editor of US Citizens Inc., a political periodical. She traveled extensively and was an avid sailor, reader, music appreciator, bridge player and gardener. Over the years she had four Cocker Spaniels. Into her elder years she loved doing New York Times crossword puzzles and kept in contact with her friends and family. Marty is survived by her children, Patricia (Edmund) Besch of Westfield, NY and Thomas (Anneke) Collord of Alkmaar, Netherlands, her brothers David W. (Gretchen) Winans of Warren and Dennis (Toni) Winans of Charlottesville, VA, four grandchildren, Maxwell and Macy Besch, and Gregory and Elizabeth Collord, great grandson Ryker Besch, her niece Julie (Winans) McTavish, nephew David G. Winans and niece Jillian Winans. At the request of the deceased there is no viewing. A private memorial service will be held in the Spring. It was Marty's wish that any memorial donations be given to PAWS Along the River, 212 Elm Street, Warren PA 16365.
